Foxgun Tom 75
Nothing to smile about or to be happy in fact a "wee bit of a disapointment" unfortunately!! probably the only game fair run in conjuction with a national organisation with angling being the main focus and that won't be having a Lurcher or Terrier show?? bit of a shame because its an innaugural show as well Tom Ps: its not even advertised as the SGA gamefair on the main organisers website: http://www.nelton.co.uk/Template1.asp?PageName=Scottish Game & Angling Show 2010 Main organisers seem more interested in Woodwork or Angling shows? no wonder they ain't interested in the working dog enthusiast, they would'nt have a clue about us Edited December 8, 2009 by Foxgun Tom

Hoolit 2
Ah well, you cant please everone all of the time , I take it you have some inside info on the event I was under the impression it was still in the planing stage , the info i found is A date for the diary We're currently in the midst of planning our first ever SGA Scottish Game and Angling Show which is taking place over the weekend of 6-7 March next year at the Royal Highland Showground at Ingliston on the outskirts of Edinburgh. It's going to be a fantastic event with everything the countryman and woman needs to prepare for the big outdoors season ahead. There'll be country clothing of all descriptions plus rifles, shotguns, binoculars, telescopes and all the other paraphernalia of rural life. We also have the angling side covered with rods, flies, waders - everything, in fact, which it seems we now need before we even set foot on the riverbank! For our own members we aim to showcase everything the modern gamekeeper and wildlife manager needs to do his job, with a range of four wheel drives, quad bikes and technical equipment. There will be seminars on fishing, game crops and a host of other subjects which are still at the planning stage. I firmly believe we desperately need an event like this early in the season to bring a timely quality selection of affordable goods to professionals and the general public just when they're planning their sporting and fishing adventures for the months agead. And it will help us boost our funds to boot. Mark it in your diary now, and I'll see you there. And if you'd like to exhibit there get in touch with our advertising department on 07805 184375. Space is selling fast so call today.
Foxgun Tom 75
Its not a question of pleasing everyone its about including a large section of the rural pursuits community! (lurcher and Terrier men) as a member of the SGA, I and others offered our service's and expertise at organising a working dog show at Ingilston on March 6/7th 2010 Lurcher/Terriers and Gundogs!!! our offer of assistance was declined? it was a majority decision not to hold a Working dog show, other than that no other reason was given?? My understanding of e-mail below is, "its not that a working dog show could'nt be held it's that one would'nt be held?) see below: Tom Ps: I don't know how old your quote is?? but a decision was made on the 1st December 2009 and I offered help on the 30th of November. Notice of the show and the confirmation of dates appeared in my copy of the SGA memebers magazine which arrived at my home address nearly two weeks before the 30th of November, its therefore reasonable to assume the the gamefair at Ingilston was! past the planning stage? venue and dates confirmed as well as a joint organisers already in place!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: SGA PRESS (sgapress@scottishgamekeepers.co.uk) Sent: 01 December 2009 17:42:46 To: 'Tom Chalmers' Dear Tom, Many thanks for your interest in the SGA show. We had a meeting today of all involved in the running of the event, and the majority view was that we wouldn’t hold a lurcher and terrier show on this first year. However that doesn’t rule it out in future as we can see the attraction of such a show. I’m sorry this isn’t the answer you were hoping for, but maybe we can work together in future. I hope to see you at the event. Hoolit 2
Yes i take your point Tom the Quote was from the SGA website ,their is no mention of this event in the members magazine it would seem they are only representing a small section of country sports. I am also a member of the SGA I e-mailed the Sga a few months ago trying to find out what if any action they were taking on the subject of the docking of working dogs tails ,ive had no reply it seems its been laid to rest by them and most other shooting associations. Foxgun Tom 75
I'm certainly not gonna knock the SGA for not holding a Lurcher and Terrier show? its unfortunate but I suppose thats life I just think this new gamefair is gonna have a limited audience rather than appealing to everyone? Tom Ps: It could also have a limited selection of traders for eg: I have a friend who specialis'es in custom made kennels terrier/ferret box's etc: I informed him of the potential of the show? and how it may have been of some benefit to him and the SGA if he traded at Ingilston? After enquirering and weighing up the cost of stand space, wage's travelling from England etc: he then! had to take into consideration that there was no attraction for his core customer base (Lurcher and Terrier boys) he could well have found himself out of pocket, losing a great deal of money and operating at a loss who in their right mind would take such a risk in the middle of a reccesion? for a first time show, so early in the season?. This same lad would have, "I'm sure" considered being a major sponsor at any lurcher/terrier and gundog show at this event if a vital core section of the fieldsports community were being catered for and made inclusive? and I'm also sure a great opportunity for the SGA and Scottish working dog enthusiasts has been missed?? Correction Ive just read the magazine again you are correct Tom it is mentioned. That will teach me to slow down a bit and read things properly.
